Harold J. Berry Sr., age 80, of Huntington, passed away Saturday December 30, 2017 at 2:15 pm at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He worked in line maintenance for the Wabash and the Norfolk and Southern Railroads for 45 years, retiring in 1999. He was also a farmer, an adventurous soul, and a great storyteller. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and animals.
Harold was born August 26, 1937, in Mt. Etna, the son of Ed S. and Louise (Miller) Berry. On July 23, 1956, he married his beloved wife of 61 years Nora I. Huffman in Huntington, and she survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 4 sons Tim Berry, Harold J. Berry Jr., Mike (Carla) Berry all of Huntington, and Sam Berry of Andrews, a daughter Dorenda Berry of Stevensville, Montana, a brother Charles (Donna) Berry of Huntington, 2 sisters Iris Whitesell and Martha Hartwig both of Huntington, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Jim, Gerald and Lloyd and 5 sisters Florence, Phyllis, Waneta, Emma & Lucille.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel, preceding the 1:00 pm funeral service at the funeral home. Steve Chowanski will officiate. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster.
