Ernest Shepherd, 76, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 3:00 pm, Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home. He was born February 22, 1940 in Martin, Kentucky to Woots and Anna Mae (Scarberry) Shepherd.
Ernest married Anna Jewel Adkins in Drift, Kentucky on May 21, 1959. He worked for Wabash Alloys 34 years, retiring in 1999. Ernest was a member of Christian Heritage Church and formerly attended the Grand Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cross shoots, and gardening. He especially loved his grandkids and his baby girl.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Jewel Shepherd of Wabash, son, Dale (Joyce) Shepherd of LaFontaine, Indiana, three grandchildren, Dale (Amanda) Shepherd, Jr. of Wabash, Ernest Lee Shepherd of LaFontaine, and Joshua Daniel (Brittany Brewer) Shepherd of Wabash, great-grandchild, Taylin Shepherd of Wabash, sister and brothers, Susan (Allen) Slone of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Larry (Barbara) Shepherd of McDowell, Kentucky, Mike (Karen) Shepherd of Drift, Kentucky, Roger (Betty) Shepherd and Steve (Mary) Shepherd, both of Printer, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Jobie, Hershel, Jack, Acie, Clyde, and Woody Shepherd, and his sister, Barbara Wright.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Christian Heritage Church, 2776 River Road, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash.
