Dorothy E. (Mason) Atkinson, 86, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Millers Merry Manor in Marion, Indiana.
Dorothy was born on September 28, 1930 in Matthews, Indiana, daughter of the late Alva Michael Mason and Lydia (Sundstrom) Mason. Dorothy was graduated from Fairmount High School in 1948. She worked as a conveyor attendant at Fisher Body in Marion for 17 years retiring in 1993. Dorothy’s husband Carl Atkinson preceded her in death on December 11, 1996. She was a member of Eastview Wesleyan Church. She was a giving and compassionate person that loved taking care of the elderly.
Dorothy is survived by three sons; Mark (Ronda) Atkinson, Marion, IN, Maurice (Teresa) Atkinson, Macon, GA, Myron (Mandy) Atkinson, Roanoke, VA, step-daughter Debbie (Quinten) Shipley, Jonesboro, IN 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son Michael and her brother Gail Mason.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 2-4 PM at Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th Street, Gas City, Indiana and 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday. Funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be at 3 PM on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Eastview Wesleyan Church with her three sons officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Impact Kidz Building at Eastview Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.
