Doris “Ruth” Small

Doris “Ruth” Small, 88, received her eternal reward at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion. She was born in her home in Grant County on April 30, 1929, to the late Roscoe and Edna (Prine) Whybrew. Ruth married her sweetheart, Keith A. Small, on July 7, 1948, and they shared 42 years together until he passed away on February 15, 1991.

Ruth graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1947. She worked at Owens-Illinois in Gas City for 25 years prior to working at the VA Medical Center, where she was a nursing assistant for 15 years. Ruth dearly loved to crochet angels, among many other items. She loved the Lord and serving Him, and she was a member of Liberty Friends in Fairmount.

She is survived by her loving family which includes her children, Howard Small, Jonesboro, Dorothy (Wayne) Gosnell, Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Martha Velasquez, Jonesboro; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary “Mildred” (Bill) Whitaker, Gas City.

In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Small; her brothers, Joe and Glen “Bee” Whybrew; and son-in-law, Roger Velasquez.

The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastors Clay Davis and Rob Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
