Donald R. Garner, age 68, of Huntington, died at 12:50 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017 at The Awakening Community Church, 235 Safari Trail, Huntington with Pastor Jeff Carrell officiating. Private burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Huntington County Community Foundation for the Heith Garner Scholarship Fund, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.

Don was born November 29, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Amos and Hessie (Teague) Garner. He was a 1967 graduate of Huntington High School and attended college. He served in the United States Air force during the Vietnam War, and as a member of the Air National Guard, he also served during Operation Desert Storm. Don married Angela L. Driscoll on June 26, 1976 in Huntington. He worked at Majestic in Huntington for over 20 years, and then worked in banking for as many years. Don served as an Elder and mentor at the Awakening Community Church in Huntington and was a member of Huntington Optimist Club. He was also a member of National Rifle Association and Disabled American Veterans; he enjoyed taking disabled veterans to the shooting range.
Don loved road trips, especially with his wife on his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years – Angela L. Garner of Huntington; five children – Steven (Karen) Garner of Huntington, Stephanie (Eric) Hathaway of Fort Wayne, Holly (Mark) Sutton of New Haven, James (Teresa) Garner of Waterloo, and Jeremiah (Amanda) Garner of Huntington; a brother – David (Rhonda) Garner of Auburn; a sister – Susan Richard of Huntington; twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Heith Daniel Garner, and a brother, Kenneth Fry.
