David I. Broom, 71 of Huntington passed away at 11:20 am on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his residence. David was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Huntington County. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a member of the Huntington Eagle Lodge and the VFW Post 2689 of Huntington. He worked as a truck driver for many years, retiring in 2009.
David was born on November 19, 1944 in Wells County, the son of Cecil and Ruth (Cocklin) Broom.
Survivors include a son: Dwight Broom of Decatur; three daughters: Marcy (Brian) Strange of Huntington; Angela (Jesse) Foster of LaFontaine; Carrie Broom of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother: Larry E. Broom of Huntington; three sisters: Elaine Broom of Huntington; Patricia (James) Manning of Warren; Lois Leist of Fort Wayne; five stepsisters: Gwen Moeller of Elgin, IL; Carolyn Jensen of Champagne, IL; Phoebe Hayes of Sycamore, IL; Nancy Olwin of CA; Laura Heinberg of Marengo, IL; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: LanDona First and JoAnn Brown.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 6:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
