Charles Robert King, 90, Gas City, went to be with the Lord at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. He was born in Gas City, Indiana, to the late Charley Fant and Hazel Z. (Robinson) King. On October 3, 1944, Charles married Mary Eleanor Slagle, and they were blessed to be able to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary the day before his passing.

Charles began working at Owens-Illinois. He then worked at Paranite Wire & Cable before finishing his career at Dana Corporation for 34 years. He retired in 1986. Charles was a member of Local UAW 113, Society of American Steelworkers, and South Marion Church of Christ.

In his leisure time, Charles loved to go fishing and camping, as well as draw. He was a great artist. He was a Johnny Cash fan and an avid NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt. Charles also liked to work on cars in his garage and watch Westerns and game shows. He will be most remembered, however, for how much he loved his family. He was truly a family man and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife, Mary, survivors include his children, Carolyn (Jim) Thomas, Fairmount, Marilyn Hamilton, Ruskins, Florida, Roberta (William) Boan, Marion, and Regina (Ronnie) Lett, Marion; sisters, Barbara J. Ice, Marion, and Edna Frame, Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Judy King; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were his brothers, John King, Buddy King, Jr., and Richard King; sisters, Mable King, Marthene King, and Rebecca Jefferies; and brothers-in-law, Thomas L. Frame, Jack Ice, and Bob Jefferies.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gaylin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
