Ada Mae “Peggy” Elkins, 77, Gas City, went to be with the Lord at 7:04 p.m. on June 1, 2016, at Wesleyan Health and Rehab Center in Marion. She was born to the late Todd T. and Ada Bell (Pool) Cook, and was a lifelong resident of Grant County and a Gas City resident since 1957. She married William R. Elkins on June 28, 1957, and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1997.

Peggy provided childcare in her home for 20 years. She previously worked at Wesleyan Health Care for 15 years and at Indiana Wesleyan University for 10 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Gas City since the 1950s.

Loving and serving her family was at the heart of who Peggy was, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and baking with them. She was known by her great-grandkids as “Grandma with a broken leg”. Part of her afternoon ritual was watching her “stories” (soap operas), particularly “Days of Our Lives”. She also enjoyed reading and sewing.

Loved ones Peggy leaves behind are her children, Patty (Mike) Miller, Gas City, and Russ (Marla) Elkins, Swayzee; brother, Ted (Ruth) Cook, Marion; grandchildren, Kasey Miller, Michael Miller, Matthew Wagener, Josh Elkins, Allison (Justin) Logan, and Breanna Elkins; and great-grandchildren, Raef Biddle, Brookellyn Miller, Kaleb Elkins, and Jordan Elkins.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Brenda Wagener, four brothers, and five sisters.

Family and friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City. Services to celebrate Peggy’s life will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity, Marion.
