Winter Banner Awards Ceremony for Miami County

WABASH, IN – The 10th Annual Miami County Winter Banner Competition awards ceremony will occur on Tues., Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at  the Peru High School auditorium.  A reception in the Peru High School Commons area will follow the awards presentation.

The awards ceremony honors all of the Miami County students who participated in this year’s contest. Sponsorship for this event is provided by First Bank of Berne. Additional support is provided by the Beta Gamma Chapter of Psi Iota Xi and the McCallen Banner Contest Endowment.

Student artwork will hang in the Honeywell Center’s Clark Gallery from November 10th through December 2nd.  The banners can be viewed at First Bank of Berne beginning Wednesday, November 14 through Friday, November 23, and will then be moved to light poles throughout the City of Peru.

The Winter Banner Contest is part of the Honeywell Foundation Educational Outreach Program. The banner contest has many benefits to the youth of Miami County.  It provides students an opportunity to use their creative talents, and it allows the community to celebrate their accomplishments by displaying their artwork in downtown Peru for all to see.  Also, through activities such as this, the Honeywell Foundation seeks to instill confidence in our youth.  Competition builds character and the banner contest provides an opportunity to instill pride and confidence students need to pursue artistic careers. The display of the banners hanging within the City of Peru is a further demonstration of how the community actively supports the youth of Miami County.

The culmination of these benefits is exemplified at the public reception, where each participating student will be honored for their achievement.  All students whose artwork was chosen for submission will receive a participation ribbon. The banner winners will also receive ribbons correlating with their award.
