William H. DeBoard, Sr., 70, of Marion, passed away at 3:52 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Marion General Hospital. He was born in Cumberland, Kentucky, on October 17, 1949, to William and Lena (Luke) DeBoard. He married Alice M. Caudill, who survives.
William attended Cumberland High School in Kentucky and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded both the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal and was an M-16 Sharpshooter. He achieved the rank of Specialist 5 and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, William worked at Foster-Forbes and Barr Brothers. He had most recently worked as a Sanitation Engineer for the City of Marion. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Marion.
William enjoyed working on cars and was an avid follower of drag racing. He liked to go fishing and hunting, and he worked on small engines. William will be remembered as a hard-working man who was strong in his ways. He was extremely intelligent and always did everything in his power to help those around him.
Survivors include his sons, William P. (Tina) DeBoard of Marion, William H. DeBoard, Jr., of Marion, and Steven (Shea) DeBoard of Marion; daughter, Jackie (Kurt) Stuber of Denver; granddaughters, Danielle, Ashley, Breanna, Collena, Jazzlyn, Shalyn, Jenny, Alicia, Selena, Mariah, Pamela, and Sesilia; grandson, Tyler; great-grandsons, David, Jr., Brandon, and Liam; great-granddaughters, Bra’lynn and Macy Jo; sisters, Vickie (Steven) Mattingley, Leona Hunter, and Deanna Lingerfelt; brother, Donny (Paulette) DeBoard; plus several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother, Robert DeBoard.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate William’s life will begin at 12:30 pm with Rev. Emery Bailey officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
