William “Bill” E. Glessner

William “Bill” E. Glessner, 88, of Swayzee, passed away at 10:36 am on Sunday, August 7, 2022, in his son’s home. He was born in Swayzee on January 21, 1934, to James and Eva (Simons) Glessner. On January 17, 1954, he married Phyllis Whiteman, and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2001. He married Rosemary Houk Fryback on February 5, 2011, and she survives. 

Bill graduated from Swayzee High School and served in the National Guard. Following his military service, Bill made a career of farming and raising hogs. He was dedicated to his profession. He was a life member of Herbst United Methodist Church and a member of the Twentieth Century Farm Club. 

Bill liked going for rides on his golf cart with his dog. He will be remembered as a great storyteller. He was a kind and loving man who will be missed dearly. 

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Glessner of Venice, FL; sons, Mark A. (Jill) Glessner of Swayzee and Jon L. (Tamara) Glessner of Swayzee; son-in-law, Kenneth Amsbury, Sr., of Marion; step-daughters, Laura (Bill) Needler of LaFontaine and Kathleen (Brian) Wood of Indianapolis; step-son, Chris Fryback of North Webster; granddaughters, Carrie Oswalt, Lindsay Glessner, Lacey Harvey, Alyssa (Andrew) McGriff, Leah (Tim) Miller, Megan (Christian) Casciola, and Rebecca (Anthony Standridge) Glessner; grandsons, Zachary (Brook) Glessner and Caleb Glessner; 4 step-grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; his dog, Yankee; and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Phyllis Glessner; daughter, Teresa A. Amsbury; grandson, Allen Glessner; and brothers, James Glessner and Philip Glessner. 

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN. 

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jeremy Moore officiating. Burial will take place at Thrailkill Cemetery in Swayzee.
