West Nile Virus in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY – West Nile Virus was reported over the weekend in Miami County. The virus is spread by mosquitoes and may cause severe illness in people. West Nile Virus has been found in people 9 months old to 94 years of age. The disease is most likely in people over 50 years of age, or those with weak immune systems. People over 50 years old have the highest risk of getting the virus. Kayla Madden, Environmental Health Department, on the situation in Miami County

West Nile Virus can not be treated, but care can be given to people with severe illness. Have a doctor give you an exam with lab testing to see if you have the virus. The West Nile Virus is in a effect until Miami County gets a HARD FREEZE this Fall.
