PERU, Ind. – There is currently an advisory throughout the weekend to not swim in the Wabash River. Heavy rains this week forced the city’s wastewater plant to spill excess water into the river and as a result Peru Utilities released something called a “combined sewer overflow” advisory on Thursday. Since being in contact with raw sewage can cause serious health problems people are advised against swimming in the river and swallowing it’s water. Activities that don’t involve direct contact with the water such as fishing or canoeing are still safe. For more information contact Peru Utilities wastewater plant at 765-473-7651.
