Wabash Marketplace Dedicates New Downtown Mural

Wabash, Ind. –The Design Committee of Wabash Marketplace is dedicating a new mural in downtown! The Wings@Wabash butterfly mural will be dedicated on Miami Street, at 10 am on Saturday, August 17. The Farmers’ Market will be on Miami Street the same morning, so come early to shop from your favorite vendors! The Monarch Mommas from Marion will be tagging and releasing butterflies during the event.

Local artist Erica Tyson painted the mural. She is a professional artist with The Orange Door Art Studio and art teacher at Southwood Elementary. Tyson was selected for her whimsy style that would pair well with the wing concept. Tyson also painted large-scale murals at Wabash County Historical Museum and Modoc’s Market.

“My design for the Wings@Wabash mural is inspired by the Wabash County Courthouse. It utilizes the historic color palette, as well” says Erica Tyson.

The mural is interactive and a prime photo location. The public is invited to stand in front of the wings to become part of the butterfly. There is also a pint-size version for children and pets!

“We would like to thank Schlemmer Brothers for allowing us to install the mural. The location is great for First Friday! We also owe a huge thank you to Big City Paints for donating nearly all of the paint and materials,” says Project Coordinator Andrea Zwiebel.

After the dedication event, join the fun in downtown! Sidewalk sales, Dave Kunkel Cruise-In, Wabash Garden Fest, and rides on Trolley No. 85 will be available!

Wabash Marketplace is accepting donations to support the installation of the project.
