Wabash City Schools Staff and Students Organize Safe Schools Rally Event

WABASH, Ind. – Wabash City Schools students and staff worked together to organize a safe schools rally event.  The event has been organized to honor victims of school violence, recognize the local law enforcement and first responders and promote a culture of safe schools. Wabash City Schools makes student safety a number one priority.  They have demonstrated this with our recent partnership with the City of Wabash to provide a full time School Resource Officer, but armed protection is just one tool in providing school safety.  In building a safe school culture, they believe they must also provide a relevant education for all children.  This means they need to empower students to have a voice and a role in their education.  The event, being held Wednesday, March 14th, has been designed and emceed by Wabash City School students at both Wabash High School and Wabash Middle School.  Students in grades 5th through 12th will be provided the option to attend the rally.  Student speakers will address topics on school safety to include honoring those lives lost in the recent school shooting; recognizing Wabash City Police Department for their commitment to providing school safety; highlighting the importance of being kind to each other; and the important role that we all play in making schools safe. Jason Callahan, Superintendent of Wabash City Schools stated, “As superintendent of Wabash City Schools, I am incredibly proud of our student body for their leadership and commitment to keeping their schools and community safe for all”.
