WABASH, Ind. – Following historic investments in Indiana’s infrastructure, Wabash is breaking ground of .7 mile of roadway reconstruction on Wabash Street from approximately Euclid St. to US 24. The new roadway will consist of new pavement, Stormwater lines. curb and gutter, sidewalks, and lighting upon completion.

Mayor Scott Long will join Senator Andy Zay and other community leaders on July 7th at 1pm to Officially kick off the project. The event will take place at the driveway of the Apostolic Church located at 1856 N. Wabash Street.

“This road project will tie in nicely with the opening of the new Parkview Wabash Hospital, the main entrance of the hospital is located within the boundary of the project. Our goal is to complete this project in a timely fashion to reduce the impact on OJ Neighbors Elementary school, also the 2nd Phase of the Alber Street project which will begin construction activities in early 2018.”

The Wabash Street Department will also be milling and resurfacing the southern part of North Wabash Street from approximately the Wabash Fire Department to Euclid Street in conjunction with this reconstruction.

The improvements were made possible through new funding provided by the Indiana General Assembly. In 2016, state lawmakers created the Community Crossings grant program. During its inaugural year, the program provided nearly $86 million in road funding to Indiana’s cities and towns. Locally, Wabash received $1,000,000.00.

This year lawmakers strengthened Community Crossings and ensured local governments would see continued increases in road funding well into the future. The City of Wabash would like to thank the General Assembly and Gov. Eric Holcomb for supporting the comprehensive, long-term plan.

“Without the strong support of State Leaders like Representative Dave Wolkins, Senator Andy Zay, and Governon Eric Holcomb, projects like these would not happen as quickly and efficiently as they are.”
