Virginia F. Hoagland

Virginia F. Hoagland, 101, North Manchester, passed away peacefully on her wedding anniversary, January 11, 2024. The daughter of John and Vida (Fields) Fretz, Virginia was born July 17, 1922, in Marshall County, Indiana.

Virginia graduated from Tippecanoe High School in 1940 and married Verl E. Hoagland two years later. The couple raised their children, Lois and Roy. A skilled homemaker, Virginia was a master cook and talented poet. She loved sending friends and family Christmas boxes containing homemade cookies and other sweet treats during the holiday season. Virginia delighted in quietly helping others and preferred to do so without recognition. She also liked to keep people on their toes, and one never knew what she might say or do to elicit a laugh or a smile. A godly woman, Virginia lived with faith and gratitude. She was a member of South Pleasant Church in North Manchester and the United Methodist Women. She was proud to be a veteran’s wife and was a member of American Legion Post 286 Auxiliary.

The loving memory Virginia F. Hoagland will be forever cherished by her daughter, Lois Rodgers, Anaheim, California; sister, Alice Marie Swager, Fremont, Indiana; grandchildren, Janet Eichenlaub, North Manchester and Scot Rodgers, Cherry Hill, New Jersey; and great-great-grandchildren, Jordan and D.J. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of seventy-three years, Verl E. Hoagland; son, Roy Hoagland; brothers, Ralph and Wilferd Fretz; and sisters, Edna Abbott and Cora Mae Bowers.

Family and friends may call Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling. A private burial will be held at South Pleasant Cemetery, North Manchester, at a later date.
