HUNTINGTON,Indiana – With United Technologies pulling out of Huntington and Indianapolis and relocating their manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Governor Pence has announced that United and Carrier have repaid more than $380,000 in grant money they had been awarded for training. The governor says the money is being redeposited in the State’s Skills Enhancement Fund to be used for other training purposes. In February, United Technologies broke news that UTEC, Huntington’s largest employer, would move it’s manufacturing department to a new facility in Monterrey, Mexico, a departure that will cost the area 700 jobs. The same day, Carrier Corp. announced it, too, would shut down a 1,400-worker factory in Indianapolis and move production to Mexico.
