Tipton and Miami County Receive over $1.2 Million for Road Work

TIPTON, MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – Tipton and Miami counties have received in total over $1.2 million of state money to take on a slew of road projects, including repaving streets and making bridge repairs. The money comes from Community Crossings, a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation and both rural and urban communities to invest in infrastructure projects that spur economic development and strengthen local transportation networks. Miami County received $166,500 to complete five road projects. A 620-foot section of Strawtown Pike will be paved in front of Maconaquah elementary and middle schools. Five roads will undergo crack sealing, including 800 South, 200 West, 550 East, 675 East and U.S. Business 31. In the unincorporated town of Miami, pavement rejuvenator will be applied to all the streets. Three county bridges are set to undergo deck patching, and a bridge over Riverside Drive south of Peru will be replaced. Converse was awarded $150,000 to repave 17 streets, totaling 8,636 feet of road. Macy will spend $167,400 to resurface most of its streets. Bunker Hill was also awarded $90,000 to repave streets. Since 2013, INDOT has provided more than $1 billion to cities, towns and counties to complete work modernizing local roads and bridges, according to INDOT’s website.
