The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night.

WABASH COUNTY, Ind. –

Student and staff recognitions:

  • SHS Teacher Amy McGouldrick was one of four teachers who participated in the Externship Grant program awarded to Heartland Career Center.  The HCC member schools were allowed teachers to apply for this grant. Amy spent time this summer at Parkview Wabash Hospital with a Nutritionist and will share the new knowledge with her students at Southwood.

Presentation:

  • Adam Weesner, Barton Coe Vilamaa architect, presented the NHS and SHS Renovation Bid and Projects and the Board approved the recommendation.  The renovations will begin on September 3, 2019!

Superintendent report:

  • Maintenance Director Steve Holley gave an update on the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Section 257 of HB 1001 under Indiana Code applies to the Teacher Retirement Fund savings.  The estimated reduction in contribution is around $113,600 for all staff and around $93,200 for bargaining unit.  The amount will be used for salary/benefits in the Education Fund.
  • Superintendent Keaffaber gave a report on the success of having staff and students at Farmers’ Market and the 4-H Fair.  Positive comments were heard from members of the community on location and at the Board meeting.

Curriculum and Instruction report:

  • Mr. Drake shared that teachers continue to attend Professional Development opportunities to prepare students.  

Financials: 

  • The Education Fund balance for the end of June was $3.4million+
  • Dr. Kuhn reviewed the 2020 Budget proposals – Operation Fund.  The Capital Projects plan, Bus Replacement plan, and Annual Financial report were approved to be advertised.

New Business:

  • A Public Hearing for Formal Bargaining as per Indiana Code 20-29-6-1 was opened and closed with no comments.
