Stanley Lyons, Jr.

Stanley Lyons, Jr. died on Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 2018, in University Nursing Center, Upland. He was born in Owingsville, Kentucky, on September 29, 1934, the son of the late Omar S., Sr. and Beulah (Sorrell) Lyons.

He graduated from Marion High School where he participated in football. He also played baseball in Legion Ball. He was a member of the first Cooperative Education Program and worked part-time at RCA his senior year. After graduation, he continued working at RCA, earning his classification as a journeyman in tool and die. In 1957, he went to work for Fisher Body, Marion, and became a troubleshooter in tool and die, retiring in 1988.

On June 16, 1968, he married Mary Emma Weidler.

Mr. Lyons was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of UAW Local 1977. He owned property on Little Tippy for over 50 years. He enjoyed boating, swimming, skiing, fishing, and hunting.

He was a member of Temple Congregational Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons.

Most importantly, he was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Mary Emma Lyons, Upland; daughters: Debbie (Gerry) Routh, Florida; and Darla (Russ) Harwood, Cicero; grandchildren: Brad (Jennifer) Harwood, Greenwood; Ariane (Wendell) Tucker, Georgia; and Abbie (Zsan) Robinson, Florida; great grandchildren: Cooper and Corbin Harwood; Sophia Fordyce; Isaiah and Simon Tucker; and Bronsten and Broderick Robinson; brothers: James (Kaye) Sorrell; and Michael (Loraine) Sorrell, both of LaFontaine; and sister: Susie (Eddie) Purvis, Wabash; nine nieces and nephews; and 11 great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Dottie Clements.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 4 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 15, 2018, with Rev. Jeff Jahn officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, LaFontaine.
