Shots Fired and Arrest Made in Marion

On September 18, 2019 at approximately 8:43 pm, Marion Police responded to the area of 31st & Nebraska Streets for shots fired. Officers arrived to the area, and located four spent 9mm shell casings lying in the roadway. Officers began speaking with individuals in the area that advised that the possible suspect went by the name “Buddha”. Officers obtained information that a Chevy, Impala (white in color) with several occupants (including Buddha) had quickly left the area.

Officers then put out an attempt to locate on the Chevy, Impala (white in color) with multiple occupants. A short time later, JEAN Team members located and followed a vehicle matching the attempt to locate description. That vehicle pulled up and parked behind a residence in the 800 Block of South Gallatin Street.

Officers viewed a male/black exiting the Impala carrying a handgun (black in color). The individual was identified as being Prentice M. Murphy (aka: Buddha). Officers confronted Murphy, and located a 9mm handgun.

Prentice M. Murphy, age 27 of Marion was arrested without incident to answer to: Invasion of Privacy (was in the presence of his child’s mother) & Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon – Level 5 Felony.

The four spent 9mm shell casings and the recovered handgun will be sent to IPS laboratory for comparison testing.
