Shelby R. Embry 94 died on Sunday August 28, 2016 at Marion Rehabiliation Center Marion, Indiana. Shelby was born on May 3, 1922 in Caneyville, KY to the late Henry and the late Zaney (Ingram) Embry. He retired from the Northern Indiana VA Medical Center, Marion, Indiana after 30 years of service as the head baker. He enjoyed hunting turkey and deer, he got his first deer when he was 871/2 years of age, fishing, painting landscapes, playing cards, gardening, baking, and watching old Westerns, especially “Gunsmoke”. He was a US Army veteran serving in Patton’s Army.

He is survived by his children Larry (Shirley) Embry, Leesburg, IN, Neal Keith Embry, Carmel, Indiana, and Diane (James) Ancil, Jefferson City, TN; Grandchildren; Jason Embry, Seattle, WA, Jeremy (Machelle) Embry, Leesburg, IN, Nick Embry, Greenfield, IN, Jaime (Tiffany) Embry, Ft. Wayne, IN, Kristi (Jimmy) Brink, Knoxville, TN, and Danny Ancil, Jefferson City, TN; 11 Great Grandchildren; and his sister, Margarete Miller, Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by brothers; Robert and Haywood Embry and sisters; Linnie Bryant, Hazel Crabtree, and Crystal Embry.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A visitation has been set for Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Fairmount Chapel, and an hour before the funeral service. A service honoring Shelby’s life will take place on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow the funeral service at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairmount American Legion or a Veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
