Sharon L. Powell, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 27, 2018. She was born on October 6, 1935, to the late John and Mildred Wray. She married Kenneth Powell on August 19, 1951, and they recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Together, Ken and Sharon had 8 children. Sharon was a wonderful mother and worked very hard to make sure that her children were well taken care of. She was extremely loving and giving, and she would do anything for her children. Sharon was an avid reader, always stayed up to date on current events, and enjoyed working on word puzzles, especially crosswords. She was also a former girl scout leader.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Kenneth; 6 children, Toni Nelson, Jonesboro, Robin Williams, Fairmount, Jacqueline (Russ) Reynolds, Elwood, Jerri (Steve) Hayes, Cicero, John (Norma) Powell, Marion, and Matthew Powell, Jonesboro; sister, Jean Gunter, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred, and two sons, Mark and Andrew Powell.
Sharon’s arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana, where a visitation will take place on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service celebrating Sharon will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
