Sara Elisabeth Gerig

Sara Elisabeth Gerig, 36, of Upland, entered the presence of Jesus at 2:06 am on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Rochester, New York, on November 23, 1983, and was the beloved daughter of Timothy and Cheryl (Sammarco) Chambers. On August 6, 2005, she married Brent Ellis Gerig, and he survives.

Sara was a 2002 graduate of Williamsville South High School in Williamsville, New York. She went on to graduate from Taylor University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She later received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University. Sara worked as a Licensed Mental Health Therapist for ten years, most recently at Still Waters Counseling in Muncie.

She was a member of Exit Church in Gas City and volunteered for Pregnancy Help Center in Marion. Sara was an avid book reader and achieved a black belt in Karate. She enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets, and had more recently made a dress for her daughter, Eliana. Sara cherished her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and His love was shown through her love of others. She helped in the Nursery at her church on Sundays. Sara will be remembered as a kind-hearted, compassionate, and wise woman who will be missed dearly. She was a light for many and her sensitive, gracious, and generous nature made a great impact on everyone she met.

In addition to her loving parents and devoted husband, survivors include her two daughters, three-year-old Abigail Elisabeth Gerig and newborn Eliana Marie Gerig; sister, Bethany Renee (John R.) Duarte of San Marcos, CA; in-laws, Rod (Linda) Gerig of Morganton, NC; sister-in-law, Teresa (Daniel) Peterson of Marion; two nieces; four nephews; many friends; and her dog, Guinness.

Sara was preceded in death by her grandparents.

A drive-through receiving line to celebrate Sara’s life will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Exit Church, 2015 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

The family will host a private memorial service on Friday, June 19, 2020, that will be livestreamed (details to be posted on the Facebook page of Exit Church).
