Samuel “Sam” Owen Purvis, Jr., 52, of rural LaFontaine, Indiana, died at 9:24 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2018 in Wabash County, Indiana, as a result of an auto accident. He was born August 17, 1965 in Marion, Indiana to Samuel Owen Purvis Sr. and Lucille (Gebhart) Criss.
Sam was a 1983 graduate of Marion High School and received his Associate Degree from Ivy Tech. He was a US Army veteran and was a self employed tree trimmer. He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Sam grew up in Marion and Kokomo.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Criss of LaFontaine; and three sisters, Iris L. Birchfield of Peru, Indiana, Ollie Fisher of Kokomo, and Millie Gentner of Marion, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Floyd Purvis and Rollie Purvis, and his sister, Lida Sellers.
Friends may call 12-1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. There will be no service.
