Roland D. Shepherd, 85, North Manchester, Indiana, passed away December 1, 2021 at Parkview
Wabash Hospital. Born in Prestonsburg, Kentucky on January 1, 1936, Roland was the son of Toy
Shepherd and Jane (Allen) Whitaker.
Before graduating from high school, Roland enlisted in the United States Army and served his country
proudly. On May 27, 1958, Roland married Lois Yates. The two were wed three days short of fifty-
eight years when Lois passed away on May 24, 2016. During their time together, Roland worked hard
to provide for his family and was a Local Union Carpenter for over forty years. After work, Roland
played bass guitar for several bands. Most of all, however, Roland loved spending time with his
grandchildren. He lit up every time one of them visited.
Roland will forever be remembered for his famous sayings, laughter, humor, and love of music.
Nearly every morning he enjoyed a McDonalds breakfast sandwich and a large fountain Pepsi. The
simple things in life made Roland the happiest.
The loving memory of Roland D. Shepherd will be forever cherished by his sons, Kenny (Joyce)
Shepherd and Scott (Angie) Shepherd, both of North Manchester; daughters, Tammy Walters, Becky
Niccum, and Sandy Blevins, all of North Manchester; sister, Linda (Mark) Crooks, Warsaw; sixteen
grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Ella Moore, Warsaw. Roland was
preceded in death by his wife Lois Shepherd; brothers, Delmer Shepherd, Louie Shepherd, and Ron
Whitaker; and grandson, Christopher Lee Shepherd.
Family and friends may call Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at McKee
Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion
of calling. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester, with Pastor
J.P. Freeman officiating.
