Richard “Rick” Wilkes, 65, Fairmount, passed away at 11:01 am on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, December 2, 1956, to Claude and Dorothy (Pearson) Wilkes. On July 3, 1976, he married Cindy Ann Bishir, and she preceded him in death.
Rick graduated from Marion High School and was a surveyor for 35 years with Grant County Government, retiring in 2016. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, as well as watching the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs, and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Christopher (Danielle) Wilkes of Fairmount; granddaughters, Chloe Wilkes, Kennedy Wilkes, and Emily Wilkes; sisters, Cheryl Douglas of IN and Marcia (Brian Purdom) France of Marion; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Taylor Caroline Wilkes; parents; and great-nephew, Marcus Brandt.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Rick’s life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Parker officiating.
