Richard G. “Dick” Maynard

Richard G. “Dick” Maynard died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10:30 am at University Healthcare Center Upland. Dick was born in Gas City, Indiana June 16, 1936 to James and Hazel (Abney) Maynard. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 39 years and he has done it again! He left Bunny behind and he knew she wanted to go with him. Proud father of five children Daniel (Patty) Maynard, LaFontaine, Don and Doug Moore (Fairmount), Denise (Glenn) Richardson, Marion, and Angel (Chris) Genth, Elkhart. He was Poppy to his Grandchildren, Cory Sweat (Chicago), Cortney Diaz (Indianapolis), Allison and Zachary Richardson (Marion). Great Grandchildren E’tainLisel (Colorado) and Cole Alan Gene Greer (Fairmount). He is survived by three siblings, Jerry (Gas City), Nancy (Don) Huff (Gas City) and Susie (Jim) Bowman (Gas City). He is proceeded in death by his parents, beloved grandmother Grace O’Banion, and siblings, Robert, Martha, Charles, Bill, Marion, John, and Joe Maynard, Charlotte Roberts and Beagle buddies (Virgil Heeter and Gene Brown).

His work history includes paperboy, pin sitter at bowling alley, Maynard family babysitter, Indiana Bell, National Guard reserve, Glass Containers (Knox Glass)-Gas City/Indianapolis, Red Gold, Ball Foster, and Emily Flynn as a driver transporting nursing home residence to and from appointments as a job shared with his brother, John.

Dick had a strong work ethic. He was an avid hunter, sports fan, euchre player at Grant County Senior citizen center, enjoyed movies and loved to travel. He won national recognition for his showmanship of Beagles, worked with the Boy Scouts, and the Hartford City Head Start Program as a sponsor. He was a born again Christian, Sunday School superintend, Sunday school teacher, and Church trustee. Dick always was willing to help those in need.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where the family will receive friends on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 4-8 PM.  Funeral service is Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2 PM  with Leo Moore officiating.  Burial will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 3 PM at Park Cemetery

Memorial Contributions may be made to St, Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
