Richard “Darryll” Sumner, 83, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. He was born in Holmswood, England, on Monday, December 5, 1938, to Richard and Gladys Sumner. He married Judith K. Spietel on May 8, 1966.
Richard lived in Indiana, Idaho, Alaska, and Florida. He became a naturalized citizen in 1947. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959 on the USS Bigelo. After his military service, he worked for the Alyeska Pipeline, retiring in 1998.
Survivors include his sons, Richard W. Sumner of Marion and Randall D. Sumner of Merlin, OR; sister, Irene of Marion; and grandson, R.J. Sumner of TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert J. Sumner; and sisters, Iris and Dilys.
The family will have a graveside gathering at Grant Memorial Park, 1606 W. 26th St., Marion, IN, at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
