Richard A. Sieling

Richard A. Sieling, died Saturday evening, December 7, 2019 at the age of 94. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 1, 1925 to Albert and Violet (Wanner) Sieling. Mr. Sieling was a longtime resident of Fort Wayne and moved to Wabash, Indiana to be closer to his family.

As a young man, Mr. Sieling joined the Army and fought in World War II within Patton’s Third Armory Division 2. He was injured at the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned a purple heart. Mr. Sieling returned from the war and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the Lodge of Masons of Indiana and a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Sieling enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He constructed a large treehouse in the backyard of the family home that withstood all of his children’s childhoods and will be forever remembered by them all. He enjoyed making the German Grits and sharing his love of many dishes with his family.

Mr. Sieling was married to the late Shirley Sieling for 60 years, and they had six children, Mark Sieling who died December 9, 2019, Linda Sieling, Les (Ellen) Sieling, Michael Sieling, Anne (Michael) Bechtol, and Mary Sieling, nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

He demonstrated strength of character and love of his country throughout his life. Mr. Sieling lived a full and wonderful life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, 1100 Manchester Ave, Wabash with Father Levi Nkwocha officiating. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
