Raymond C. Johnson, 78 of Huntington passed away at 5:45 pm on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at his residence. Throughout his life Raymond worked many different professions. He worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal service for 33 years, a driver for Huntington Area Transportation, a wood cutter, a farmer, and in construction for many years. Raymond was a 1955 graduate of Huntington Catholic high school, and was inducted into the Huntington County Basketball Hall of Fame. After high school Raymond served his country in the United States National Guard. He helped coach several of the Huntington County Youth sports teams, including Huntington County Baseball’s Clear Creek team for many years. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies who loved coaching and helping children.

Raymond was born on October 7, 1937 in Huntington, the son of Herman H. and Loretta M. (Ness) Johnson. His parents preceded him in death.

He was united in Marriage to Mariella Rody on June 25, 1960 in Fort Wayne. His wife survives

Additional survivors include 3 sons: John (Joan) Johnson of Huntington, Joseph (Carol) Johnson of North Manchester, and Jerome “Br. Jerry” O.F.M. Capuchin of Detroit; Two Daughters: Judy (Todd) Knecht of North Manchester, and Jennifer (Arthur) Leighton of Sugar Island Michigan; three sisters: Sister M. Joan Elizabeth Johnson C.S.C. of Notre Dame, Susan (Patrick) Landrigan of Fort Wayne and Ann Marie (Sam) Snyder of North Manchester; 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Heath Knecht

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 25, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. A Rosary service will be open to the public at 1:30 pm immediately before the visitation.

Funeral service will be held on Friday August 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. With one hour of calling prior to the service.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery

Memorial donations can be made out to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice, Cancer Services of North East Indiana, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, or to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
