Peter John “Pete” Dejanovich, Jr.

Peter John “Pete” Dejanovich, Jr., of Marion, died Monday, June 10, 2019 at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.  He was 64.

Pete was born May 5, 1955 in St Joseph, MI, and moved to Tucson, AZ as a young child.  He was an accomplished drummer at a young age and played with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra while in high school.  After graduation from Palo Verde High School in Tucson, he joined the U.S. Army as a pharmacy technician.  While in the army, he completed his bachelor’s degree in nursing, and continued his military career as a nurse.  Following his time in the army, he worked as an emergency room, trauma and flight nurse for several hospitals throughout the country.

Since his retirement, Pete filled his time perfecting his drumming techniques, learning the Russian language, and walking his beloved dogs.  He was also an avid reader, enjoying books on history and various religions.

Pete is survived by his son, Peter John, III; his daughter-in-law, Andrea; and his grandson, Peter John IV “PJ”.  He also leaves behind his two canine companions, Penny and Buster. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter John, Sr. and Hazel (Huckaba) Dejanovich.

Friends and family may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana at 1:00 p.m.

Because of Pete’s great love for dogs, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to the Marion-Grant County Humane Society, 505 S. Miller Ave., Marion, IN  46953.
