Paul M. Harper

Paul M. Harper, age 87, of Marion passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 in his home.

Paul was born December 13, 1931 in Marion, Indiana the son of the later Oscar B. and Edna Mae (Williford) Harper.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Barris.  He married Patricia Shields on November 23, 1955, and she survives.

After his service in the Navy, he was a nursing assistant at the VA Hospital until his retirement.  He was then a volunteer fireman at the Center Township Fire Department.  He was a member of the Eastview Wesleyan Church in Gas City and was a Scout Master for Pack 49 in the early 70’s and was “Scout Master of the Year”.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and coloring.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Harper of Marion; two sons, Paul Allen Harper (Lisa) of Wichita Falls, Texas and Michael Harper (Connie) of Marion; a daughter, Suzanne Oswalt (Fred) of Delaware, Ohio; two brothers, Donald B. Harper of Montpelier and Carl Harper; 5 grandchildren, Nicole Harper of Gas City, Matthew Harper of Wichita Falls, Texas, Elizabeth Oswalt of Colorado, Heidi Stepp (Steven) of Delaware, Ohio and Steven Harper (Stephanie) of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Rene’ Stepp and Adeline Stepp, both of Delaware, Ohio; and one on the way.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, David L. Harper; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Stepp.

Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Visitation will also take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th Street, Gas City, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating.

Burial will immediately follow funeral services at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
