Pastor Phillip “Doc” Lester Troxell

Pastor Phillip “Doc” Lester Troxell, 72, passed away September 8, 2023, in Kokomo, IN. He was born April 13, 1951, in Wabash, IN to Susie (Lester) Miller and Tobias Miller. He was adopted by Alma and John Troxell who became his loving parents after the passing of his birth mother. To Phillip, Alma and John were his mom and dad.

Phillip graduated from Southwood Junior – Senior High School. He attended Barber school in Indianapolis and became a Barber before he joined the military in 1971. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam, Korea, and the United States from 1971-1979.

Phillip retired from Delco Electronic/Delphi after 29 and a half years. After his retirement he spent time in several positions but loved his time at North Miami Elementary School and spent 9 years as the North Miami Boys Head Golf Coach. Phillip spent some time as the administrator at the Moose Lodge in Peru, Indiana and was still a member at the time of his passing.

Phillip drove for the Mecum car auction. He loved all the old cars. He was huge Notre Dame fan, would never give up on the Cubs, and was a Bears fan. He enjoyed golfing and traveling to golf in Tennessee was one of his favorite things to do. 

He married Denise (Dagnen) Troxell on June 27, 2016, in a ceremony overlooking a golf course.

At the age of 68 he went back to school through Bethany College BLI to become a Pastor. In April 2023 he was ordained as a Church of the Brethren Minister. He served on several boards throughout the district. Phillip found that being a pastor was his true calling in life. Phillip was the Pastor at Peru Church of the Brethren. He loved God, his entire family, and his country.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denise (Dagnen) Troxell; brother, Ralph (Peggy) Brooks; sons, Ted (Dawn Krause) Troxell and Chris Troxell; daughter, Melissa (Danny) Whinery; stepsons, Austin (Nicole) Schell and Collin Redman; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phillip was preceded in death by his grandson Russell Mercer, 2 brothers Gary Gray and David Miller, and his parents.

Visitation and viewing will be from 11am-3pm Saturday September 16, 2023, at Peru Church of the Brethren 134 E 5th St, Peru, IN 46970. Funeral service will follow. Internment will take place at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Peru Church of the Brethren.
