Ned M. Simons

Ned M. Simons, age 90, of Huntington, died at 7:05 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Heritage Pointe in Huntington.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington, 1180 West 500 North, Huntington, Indiana. Visitation will follow from 3 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Joel Yeager officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Pleasant Chapel Cemetery in Roanoke with military graveside rites performed by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana or National Parkinson Foundation, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.

Ned was born December 6, 1926 in Roanoke, the son of Evan D. and Effie (Morrow) Simons. He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during World War II. He married Janell K. Paul on August 4, 1963 in Roanoke. Ned was an elected official for the Huntington County Government for 28 years, from which he retired. He was a life member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in Roanoke. He enjoyed singing in his barbershop quartet and was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He particularly loved Purdue football and basketball and putzing around.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janell K. Simons of Huntington, a daughter, Marcina K. Simons of Edmond, Oklahoma, and a son, Craig S. Simons of Roanoke. His parents and sister, Jean Ellen Truitt, precede him in death.
