Nancy Wray Petry, North Manchester, formerly of Goshen, passed from this life and into heaven on September 26, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. The daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Marquess) Wray, Nancy was born on April 3, 1949 in Elkhart, Indiana.
From an early age, Nancy was a kind hearted person, that had the uncanny ability to talk to anyone she met, and had the beautiful gift of being able to speak her mind in a manner that was pleasant and kind. As she grew older, Nancy attended the Goshen school system and eventually graduated from Goshen High School. After high school, Nancy began her career as a bookkeeper, most notably working for Kauffman John Deere and then for her husband at Pro Service Center. After many years of service, Nancy retired in 2009.
On January 19, 1991 Nancy married Stephen L. Petry. Steve brought two children into the marriage that Nancy loved as if they were her own. Before moving to North Manchester in 2016, Nancy and Steve were both members at Lakeland Eagles #3760 in Syracuse, Indiana. During that time, Nancy was president of Lakeland Eagles for a year. After moving to North Manchester, Nancy and Steve started to attend the Manchester Church of the Brethren, where they met many new friends. She also volunteered at the North Manchester Thrift Shop for a few years.
The loving memory of Nancy Petry will be forever cherished by her husband of nearly thirty-three years, Stephen “Steve” Petry, North Manchester; bonus children, John (Marci) Petry, Granger and Anne Petry, Goshen; brothers, James “Jim” (Cathy) Wray, Goshen and Jeff (Lori) Wray, St. Charles, Illinois; sister, Barbara (Gaylann Ball) Wray, Goshen; and one granddaughter, Arianna Petry. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
A gathering to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held November 18, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 12889 North Kern Road, Syracuse, Indiana.
