Nancy Ann Tinkel

Nancy Ann Tinkel, 84, Marion, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 12:45 pm.

Nancy lived a full life.  She graduated from Sweetser High School in 1956 and went on to graduate from Local Business School in Marion.  Later in life, Nancy furthered her education and attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods Business College.  She married Embree L. Tinkel, Sr., in 1958.

Nancy worked at RCA for 11 years and was then recruited to work for I&M Electric Company as executive secretary and then became office manager until she retired in October of 1997.  While working, she volunteered at the election poles, as well as the United Way for 12 years.  She did missionary work in Oklahoma helping to build churches, fellowship halls, and parsonages.  Nancy was a member of Professional Secretaries International Organization, where she also was President for three years.

Nancy was extremely active during her retirement.  She volunteered for 15 years at Marion General Hospital in the Emergency Room.  She also continued to volunteer at the election poles after retirement.  She was the secretary and Sunday school teacher at her church, and she loved helping with Vacation Bible School.  She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and was a Master Gardener.  Nancy was very proud of her many garden plots at home.  She spent the rest of her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nancy enjoyed playing Euchre all her life, playing in clubs in Marion, as well as in Lakeland, Florida.  She and her husband started their married life enjoying boating and skiing.  They then moved on to camping and traveled all over the United States.

Survivors include her husband, Embree L. Tinkel, Sr.; children, Embree L. (McCoy Wagers) Tinkel, Jr., and Karen (Dennis) Turner; grandchildren, Craig (Amanda) Turner and Andrew (Kira) Turner; great-grandchildren, Kandis and Wayd Downam, Jackson Turner, Ryder Turner, and Tegan Turner; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

On Friday, January 20, 2023, a funeral service to celebrate Nancy’s life will take place at North Chapel at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery.
