Michael J. Harford

Michael J. Harford, 68, North Manchester, passed away on May 31, 2022 at his home. The son of Jack and Deon (Gutfeld) Harford, Michael was born on July 23, 1953 in San Francisco, California.

After graduating from Westmoor High School in 1971, Michael attended the San Francisco Academy of Art where he nurtured his highly creative and intellectual mind. He quickly discovered his love for paper collage and mixed media art which he ended up sharing nationally and internationally. Michael drew much inspiration from his childhood growing up in San Francisco; manifesting imagery from the 1960’s. The political climate and trends of the era were always prevalent in his work. Michael would also work for the Teamsters at the San Francisco Newspaper Agency.

For many years, Michael put his artistic aspirations on hold to raise his son, Ian, and to keep up with the demands of running a household. It was an exciting time when Michael could begin working on his paper collages again. These hand-crafted postcards made their way all around the world. Michael’s networking skills were unmatched and came in handy as he became an avid blogger, using the internet to showcase his work. His mail art event, The World is a Town, brought together a worldwide community of artists who work small-scale. He was a lover of vintage books, printed media, coffee and art. Michael was also an extremely thoughtful individual, sensitive to changes in culture and politics.

The loving memory of Michael J. Harford will be forever cherished by his companion, Lisa Iversen, North Manchester; father, Jack Harford, Sonoma, California; son, Ian (Sheena) Harford, Salt Lake City, Utah, and sister, Sharlene Gianopoulos, Scotts Valley, California; stepchildren, Sean Lindland, and Kim Lindland; nephews, Shane Gianopoulos, and Troy Gianopoulos. He is preceded in death by his mother Deon (Gutfeld) Harford.

At Michael’s request, there will be no services held.

The family of Michael J. Harford has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
