Michael J. Forbes

Michael J. Forbes, 76, of Peru, Indiana, formerly of Wabash, died at 12:15 pm, Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Duke’s Memorial Hospital in Peru. He was born on January 23, 1947, in Wabash, to Harold Lee and Phyllis Joan (Leiter) Forbes. 

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Cindy A. (Hetzner) Fisher at the Mississinewa Campground in Miami County, Indiana, on July 23, 2023. Mike was a US Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War, where he received several service awards. He was a lifelong member of Wabash Alliance Church. Mike enjoyed playing euchre and camping, and had been a camp host the past three years. He also loved cars, especially his Chevelle.  

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Fisher-Forbes of Peru, daughter, Stacy (Michael) Mavec of Bloomington, Illinois, two grandchildren, Grace Mavec and Michael A. Mavec, Jr., both of Bloomington, three stepchildren; Melissa (Jim) Ulshafer of Urbana, Indiana, Joe Fisher, Jr. of Mexico, Indiana, and Jeremy (Stephanie) Fisher of Roann, Indiana, 10 step grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, sister, Leanne (Francis “Bud”) Voland of Wabash, and brother, Rex (Joy) Forbes of Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Todd Render officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Valor at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 12:30 – 2:00 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Wounded Warrior Project.
