WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Studies have shown that it is less expensive to preserve asphalt pavement than to allow it to break apart until it needs repaired or replaced. Furthermore, they show that each $1 spent now on pavement preservation could save up to $7 in the future. It is clear that the most cost effective way to spend our tax dollars is to make this road last as long as possible by applying preventative maintenance treatments in a timely manner.
SAFETY
BIORESTOR composition and odor: Please note that BIORESTOR is formulated using agricultural oils, the same ones we consume as food. These oils are non-toxic; however, all have a distinct odor. The principal odor is citrus/pine which comes from orange, pine, grapefruit and lemon oils. These oils are safe to breath and are used in many air fresheners. Soybean oil is a major component in BIORESTOR and it too has a distinct odor. The overall odor should dissipate as the product penetrates and reverses the oxidation of the asphalt. The odor is safe, non-toxic, and has a low volatility. The odor of BIORESTOR is less offensive than the odor of asphalt oil, cutback oils, and other paving materials currently in use. It is inherently safer than inhaling any petroleum-based paving material due to its formulation, cure time, and penetrating characteristics.
ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE
An average mile of new asphalt road requires approximately 100,000 gallons of petroleum to build in both materials and equipment. As it ages, (6-12 years) and becomes rough and uneven, it will require an additional 40,000 to 50,000 gallons of petroleum and liquid asphalt. By applying BIORESTOR bio-based sealant, we will slow down oxidation and the resulting damage, making the road last substantially longer.
