With her family by her side, Meta Joann Turner, 84, of Jonesboro, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Twin City Health Care in Gas City. She was born in San Francisco, California to Dale and Eunice Carey on Wednesday, October 26, 1938. Meta married Jack Turner on July 6, 1958, they were married for 59 years. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2017.
She is survived by 3 children, daughter, Cathy Turner of Warsaw; two sons, Stewart (Helen) Turner of Upland, Douglas (Darla) Turner of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Caty, Ian, Patti, Hannah, Afton, Kane, Meriah, Dillon, Reece, Megan, and Grace; 3 step-grandchildren, Christine, Scott, and Brittany; 17 great grandchildren; and 6 step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Carey of Marion.
After graduating from Marion High School, she worked for a time at Bell Fibre in Marion. Meta was a horse enthusiast and loved riding. In fact, on her 16th birthday, her dad gave her the choice of a car or a horse and she chose a horse!
Meta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marion. She was an antique collector, dealer and appraiser and a member of the local Antique Club and Garden Club. She had a green thumb and had beautiful herb and flower gardens she lovingly tended surrounding her home. She had several articles written about her and her antique collection.
She loved to travel with her husband and they would travel the world together by plane, boat, and camper. She was a wonderful artist donating most of her work to the church bazaar. She was an avid IU and Colts fan and loved watching them play. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and going to all their activities and events. She was their biggest fan!
Per Meta’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. There will be a private family celebration of her life at a later date.
