Mayor Swears In New Firefighter And Hands Retired Air Force Colonel Key To City

WABASH,Indiana – The Wabash City Council approved the last of a 10-year continuing tax abatement to Vision Properties, LLC, for their optometry clinic, administrative offices and optical lab. Wabash Mayor Scott Long then swore in Probationary Firefighter / EMT Jacob Pegg.

Pegg, the 25-year-old Wabash native, spoke to MiBash News after the ceremony and said that joining the Wabash Fire Department is a life-long dream.

Mayor Long jokingly said “Get him a badge and get him to work!” before adding that he is looking forward to working with the great group of firefighters and police officers coming aboard. The Mayor then presented a key to the city to retired Air Force Col. Douglas Schwartz.

The Mayor said that Ft. Wayne-native Schwartz, who served in the Air Force and Air Reserve for 35 years, visited our city often while commanding the 434th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom.

The Mayor added that Col. Schwartz brought many dignitaries to the city, including the Secretary of the Air Force. Doug Schwartz on receiving the key to the city.

The Mayor then said that, today being Flag Day, a special ceremony will take place at the Wabash Elks Lodge at 6 pm. Finally, Mayor Long noted that Inez Street off Harrison Avenue will be open this morning after a water issue diverted traffic in the area.
