Maurice R. Ogden

Maurice R. Ogden, 92, of Roann, Indiana, died at 1:35 am, Monday, December 6, 2021, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. He was born on November 3, 1929, in Wabash County, Indiana, to Elwood H. and Gayle E. (Wertenberger) Ogden.

Maurice married Gloria “Darlene” Haecker in Roann on December 12, 1953; she died July 22, 2008. He then married Mildred (Vigar) Taft at the Roann Covered Bridge on October 22, 2011. He was a US Army veteran serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Maurice was a farmer, raised livestock and dairy cattle, and also drove school bus for the Manchester Community School System for more than 50 years. He was a member of the former Niconza Baptist Church, and currently attended the Walk by Faith Community Church. He enjoyed tinkering, and working outside. Maurice lived his entire life in a half mile radius from his birthplace.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ogden of Roann; five children, Ronald (Lora) Ogden, Dennis (Janet) Ogden, Cindy (Dennis) Minnix, and Julie (Ed) Manns, all of Roann, and Cheryl Schooley of Warsaw, Indiana, son-in-law, Kent (Sandy Trowbridge) Franz of Hoagland, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Monica (Brad) Linn of Indianapolis, Indiana, Drew (Jackie) Minnix of Roann, Shelby Minnix of Detroit, Michigan, Jordyn Franz of Hoagland, Brittany Ogden of Elkhart, Indiana, Emily Ogden of Roann, Jacob (Katie) Schooley of Columbia City, Indiana, and Caleb Schooley of Mishawaka, Indiana, three great-grandsons, Avery Minnix, Monroe Linn, and Oliver Schooley; five step children, Marie Sayger of Kokomo, Indiana, Dan (Sherry) Townsend, of Wabash, Robert (Janet) Townsend of Roann, Diana (Kenneth) Gentry of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Don (Lora) Townsend, Winona Lake, Indiana; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and his brother, Joe (Vivian) Ogden of North Manchester. He was also preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy Franz, grandson, Derek Franz, son-in-law, Rick Schooley, and his brother, Lowell Ogden.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, December 13, 2021, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann, with Jody Tyner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-6 pm Sunday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department.
