Mary Lou DeWitt, 90, of Rochester, Indiana, died at 8:13 am, Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash, Indiana. She was born on June 17, 1933, in Wabash, to Wilbur and Vera (Grier) Baer.
Mary Lou was a 1951 graduate of Chippewa High School, and a graduate of the Fort Wayne School of Nursing. She married Virgil “Dan” DeWitt in Wabash on September 23, 1994. Mary Lou worked as a licensed practical nurse at Millers Merry Manor in Wabash, and also Lifecare in Rochester. She was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ in Wabash. Mary Lou enjoyed flowers and being outdoors near the pond. She loved her cats and dogs, and her nursing career.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil “Dan” DeWitt of Rochester; nine children, Daniel (Debbie) Ford of Wabash, Claudia (Doug) Weitzel of Lagro, Indiana, Duane (Chris) DeWitt of Florida, Cheryl Porter of Tennessee, Penny (Mark) Howkinson of Fairbanks, Indiana, Michelle (Russell) Conley of Rochester, Walt (Kim) DeWitt of Florida, Lori (Kyle) Hoover of Rochester, and Clinton (Kaysone) DeWitt of Oregon; 23 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Ford; one grandson; brother, Bob Baer; and her half sister, Betty Baer.
Memorial services will be 6:00 pm, Friday, October 6, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Michael Eaton officiating. Friends may call 5-6 pm Friday, October 6, 2023, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Bachelor Creek Church of Christ.
