Mary F. Russell

Mary F. Russell, age 94, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Garden Villa in Bloomington, Indiana.

Mary was born November 11, 1923 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Dewey and Hazel (Ridenour) Meador. She married Clifton F. Russell on November 22, 1941 in Seymour, Indiana. She worked as a secretary at Marion Community Schools for more than twenty years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, her parents, her brother, Dick Meador, and her sister, Norma Coleman.

Mary was a lifetime member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and a past member of First United Methodist Church. She played in bridge clubs and loved to sew, making clothing and quilts for herself and family. She enjoyed traveling and attending quilt shows. Mary is remembered as a wonderful cook whose pies, green beans, and noodles were the best part of the holidays. She loved to read and instilled a life-long love of books in her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughters especially loved her stories of life in the 30s and 40s, particularly when she worked as a hat model in a department store.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Susan (Phil) Sloffer of Bloomington, Indiana and Pam (Jacques) Kressmann of Chevy Chase, Maryland; a brother, Jack (Mary) Meador of Kokomo, Indiana; five grandchildren: Anna Greenberg (Dana Milbank) and Kathryn Greenberg (Ari Zentner) of Washington, DC, Jonathan Greenberg (Justine Gardner) of Brooklyn, New York, Chris (Diane) Sloffer of Greenfield, Indiana and Elizabeth Sloffer (Justin Bladecki) of Urbana, Illinois; and eight great-grandchildren: Paola, Sadie, Jasper, Rigby, Teo, Gus, Alexia, and Nathan.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Graveside Services will immediately follow the visitation at Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana with Reverend Colleen Harden officiating.
