Marion Police Respond to Stabbing and Armed Robbery

On August 16, 2019 at approximately 12:10 am, Marion Police responded to the 3600 Block of South Washington Street for a stabbing.

Jack Abbott Jr., age 26 reported that he had walked to the Circle K located at 38th and Washington Street. Upon returning to his residence he took the alley between Washington and Wigger Streets towards 37th Street. Abbott stated that a white male approached him, tapped him on the side and stabbed him. Abbott reported that before the subject ran away he stated “I got you bitch”. Abbott stated that he didn’t immediately realize that he had been stabbed. Abbott advised that he contacted the police a few minutes later. Abbott described the suspect as a white male, long hair, glasses and khaki shorts.

Abbott was treated by Marion General Hospital medical staff. Abbott sustained a stab wound to his left side – just above his hip. Abbott’s injury was non-life-threatening. This is an Active Investigation.

On August 16, 2019 at approximately 4:14 am, Marion Police responded to the 300 Block of East River Blvd. for an armed robbery.

Joshua Purvis, age 36 and Jessica King, age 28 reported they were walking their dog in the area of Grant and Vine Streets when a black male approached them from out of the darkness. Purvis & King reported that the black male robbed them at gunpoint. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of currency and a cellular phone.

The suspect then fled the area running north towards Washington School Apartments. Purvis and King described the suspect as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans, and displaying a black-in- color handgun. Neither Purvis or King were injured.

This is an Active Investigation.
