Manchester Jr-Sr High School Choir Students Earn 22 Gold Medals and 11 Silver Medals at ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — On Saturday, January 28th, under the direction of Sharon Lehman, Manchester Jr-Sr High School Choir teacher, 40 students from Manchester Community Schools performed a vocal or piano selection for the annual solo and ensemble contest. The contest is part of the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) and was hosted by Fair eld Jr/Sr High School in Goshen. Results from the contest were: 22 Gold Medals (13 Vocal Soloists, 6 Ensembles, 3 Pianists) and 11 Silver Medals ( 7 Vocal Soloists, 2 Ensembles, 2 Pianists).

The Solo & Ensemble contest o ers the opportunity for students to perform as soloists and/or in small groups in front of a judge who gives personal feedback as well as a rating of Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participation. Students choose music from di erent categories based on di culty, with Group I being the most advanced level of music. The solo and ensemble contest is held in various schools around the state, and each location includes participants from many schools.

Students who perform a Group I piece and receive a Gold rating from the judge are then eligible to perform their solo or ensemble at the state contest. State contest will be held on Saturday, February 18th at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis. Students will receive another rating and additional feedback on their performance from the judge at the state level.

Manchester students that will be participating at state contest include: Anna Blevins, Emma Burlingame, Nina Daugherty, Mikayla Genovese, Hannah Gish, Harley Kruschwitz, Chloe Leckrone, Devin Marcum, Carmah Parr, Ben Reichenbach, Sam Reichenbach, Lindsay Rice, Madisyn Schmidt, Justin Self, Emma Sklar, and Madison Sorg.
