Louie Benedict

Louie Benedict, 97, of Hartford City, IN, formerly of Mt. Zion, IN. passed away at 11:54 AM  on Tuesday, September 04, 2018 at IU Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.  He was born on Sunday, July 10, 1921, in Upland, IN.  He married B. Joann (Bonner) Benedict on Friday, August 22, 1952 in Marion, Indiana.  Louie was a 1939 graduate of Jefferson Twp. School in Upland, IN. He served his country from July 1942 until January 1946 in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a petty officer. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatre Campaigns. He landed  in Tokyo Harbor on September 2, 1945. He owned and operated the General Store in Mt. Zion, Jackson Twp., Wells Co. After closing the store he developed and operated Zion Glass Co. where he would buy glassware from many glassware manufacturers and sell to the retail florist trade. Louie liked almost all sports. He had played on the Jefferson twp. basketball team for 3 years. After retirement in the early 80’s he and his wife, Joann liked spending winters in Brownsville Texas. They both loved to golf. Louie also enjoyed gardening, and reading. He served on the Honor Guard for the American Legion.

 

Loving Survivors Include his Daughter – Mrs. Jeff (Phyllis) Holmes, Bluffton, IN, Son – Michael Benedict, Fort Wayne, IN, Son – Matthew Benedict, Decatur, IN, Grandsons – Tyler Benedict, Josh Benedict, Mason Benedict, Tucker Benedict, Granddaughters – Kayla Benedict, Courtney Stout, & Mackenzie Maggart, and Great Grandchildren- Cyla Stout, Colter Stout, Boone Maggart, Kaden Benedict, & Avery Benedict.

 

 

He was preceded in death by his Father – Louie Benedict, Mother – Hancel F. (Chappel) Benedict, Wife – B. Joann (Bonner) Benedict, Sons – David Benedict, Andrew Benedict, Brothers – Joseph Benedict, William T. Benedict, and Sisters – Hancel Peery, & Julia Dawson.

 

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home 109 W. Windsor St. Montpelier, IN    on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

 

A service to celebrate Louie’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018    with Rev. Dewey Zent  officiating.  Interment will follow in the Jones Cemetery in Wells Co. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Millard Brown American Legion Post # 156.
