Lori “Slim” Smelser, 59, Gas City, passed away in Marion General Hospital at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018. He was born in Marion on June 16, 1958, and was the son of the late Calvin and Martha (Watson) Smelser.
Lori was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He had a big heart, and he would do anything for anyone. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed babysitting them. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing Xbox games, racing, as well as fishing and hunting with his friends. Lori also liked music and learned to play the mandolin with his brother, Jim.
He is survived by his siblings, Doug (Nancy Rankin) Smelser, Bloomington, Sharyn (Richard) Sherron, Marion, Robin (David) England, Bloomington, and Rodney (Elizabeth) Smelser, Jonesboro; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Cartwright; brother, James Smelser; and nephew, Justin Smelser.
The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN. There will be a graveside service at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland immediately following the visitation with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.
